How to fix bad sectors or bad blocks on Hard Disk

Over time, due to errors during disk operations, the hard disk will begin to generate bad sectors. There are two types of bad sectors, the one which is caused by physical damage to the surface of the hard disk, or the one caused by the logical errors from I/O system of computers. To resolve this on Linux Operating System can be done in various ways.

Under Linux, you can read the SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) information from the hard disk using ‘smartctl’.

In this example, I’ll show you how to analyze bad sectors/bad blocks on hard disk using “Smartctl” and then I’ll seek to recover it by using the “Hdparm”.

How to check bad sectors or bad blocks on Hard Disk in Linux

‘badblocks’ is the command or utility in Linux operating system which can scan or test our hard disk and external drive for bad sectors. Bad sectors/bad blocks is the space of the disk which can’t be used due to the permanent damage or OS is unable to access it.

Badblocks command will detect all bad blocks/bad sectors on our hard disk and save them in a text file so that we can use it with ‘e2fsck’ to configure Operating System (OS) to not store our data on these damaged sectors.

How to auto reconnect dropped Internet Connection on Linux

Connecting to the Internet on Linux can be through a variety of ways, one of them is using “Sakis3g” application. Unfortunately Sakis3g application does not have ‘auto reconnect’ feature, it makes us have to do manually reconnect the connection when our Internet connection dropped.
